Welcome to Curl Bridgewater!
At Curl Bridgewater, we bring curlers together both on and off the
ice for the enjoyment of the game and social time with new and old friends.
Whether you're new to curling or experienced, we offer opportunities for all
levels and have a variety of leagues throughout the week. Learn more about our
different leagues by visiting our League Page.
Curling Season Overview
Our curling season is split into two halves, and you can start either in October
or January. Here's a quick overview:
First Half: Starts in early to mid-October and runs until
just before Christmas.
Second Half: Begins in the new year and ends around late March.
In late September, we post sign-up sheets for adult evening leagues on our bulletin
board. Similarly, for the second half, sign-ups are posted in early December. For
daytime leagues, most are drop-in, and no pre-registration is required. Visit our
Membership Registration Form
for detailed information on membership categories, descriptions, and fees.
Learn to Curl
We offer Learn to Curl clinics early in the season, led by experienced
instructors. These clinics are perfect for beginners and will help you get comfortable
on the ice. Our members are always willing to help out, and several certified coaches
can offer more advanced advice throughout the season. We can teach curling using
the traditional sliding delivery or with a delivery throwing stick if needed. Plus,
new curlers have access to practice ice by signing up for a sheet at your convenience.
Social Events and Fun
Curling at Curl Bridgewater isn’t just about the game—it’s about the community!
We host several fun social events throughout the season, including:
Turkey Spiel (Before Christmas)
Boxing Day Lobster Spiel
Saturday Night Drop-in Curling
End-of-Year Sleepwalkers Event
We also host off-ice events like music nights, games, and social gatherings.
Competitive Curling
Curl Bridgewater is known for hosting competitive tournaments throughout the year. These are great opportunities for new curlers to watch and
learn from more experienced players. You may even get a chance to meet some famous
curlers!
What to Wear and Bring
Curling requires flexibility, so it's important to wear comfortable clothing:
Clothing: Wear loose, stretchy pants and light layers. The
ice shed can be chilly, but you’ll warm up as you play.
Footwear: Clean, indoor-only sneakers with rubber soles work
best. The club provides sliders and brooms for beginners.
Gloves/Mitts: Wear gloves with grip surfaces on the palms
and fingers.
Head Protection: The Canadian Curling Association recommends
recreational curlers wear CSA-approved helmets. You can also find alternative
headgear in our Pro Shop.
As you improve, you might want to invest in personal equipment like sliders, grippers,
curling shoes, and brooms.
Curling Etiquette & Tips
Here are a few things every new curler should know:
Respect yourself, others, the facility, and the ice.
Be a good sport and cheer for all good shots.
Focus on improving your own skills, not criticizing others.
Be on time and ready to play.
Prepare your muscles with warm-up and stretching activities.
Always clean your footwear before entering the ice shed.
Friends are welcome to watch, but make sure to ask about signing in
guests.
Keep beverages in designated holders at each end and off the ice.
